- IF
THE ANSWERS ARE YES -
THEN IT MUST BE
The DATATRAY product
range provides a most versatile cable management system for the safe routing
and protection of data and communication cables in all critical environments
where the loss of information is critical.
What is DATATRAY
Ten years ago, due to the specific requirements of the BBC to have a simple
yet flexible cable support system that could be readily adapted to suit
their ever changing layout demand in their new studios at the White City
in London.........
..........a new word
was heard in the English Language.
That word was DATATRAY
A new product was
launched. The design considerations were passed to KINSTRUT LTD. who based
on their considerable experience with the support of services and cables
for the British Telecom, designed and produced a new cable support system
called DATATRAY. The simplicity of the product and the ease of its installation
has now made DATATRAY synonymous with nearly every major data and communication
installation in the U.K. and many overseas projects.
Its pedigree covers
every aspect of industry and commerce, from major banking institutions
in the city, to the Stock Exchange. To the Civil Aviation Authority to
Police and Military installations in fact anywhere the loss of data or
communication would be critical.
The product has continued
to be developed to meet the ever changing demands of the client, and their
particular application requirements. In many cases the whole support project
has been designed, manufactured and installed by our own experienced engineers.
Datatray with its
50 mm x 50 mm wire grid spacing provides just the right support to prevent
stress in small cables, as well as accepting any load imposed by larger
power cables. This is a complete system that can provide factory made
fittings or accessories to enable site formed fabrication of bends, tees
& crosses etc. It includes an additional extensive range of fittings
that can be attached to the basic wire basket to provide stand off legs
of various heights, conduit takeoff plates, and a range of outlet and
take-off plates to suit most communication requirements to Cat. 5 and
above. All fittings are designed to ensure continuous earth bonding.
DATATRAY Construction
Based on a welded
wire mesh grid with rods at 50 mm spacing.
Open mesh grid produces a tray of very lightweight construction but with
a large volume capacity and a high load carrying capacity.
Open mesh grid allows cables to pass through the gaps in the mesh from
one level of tray to another without having to drill and bush each junction.
The use of mesh ensures maximum cable ventilation and prevents the build-up
of dust and debris, thus reducing fire and health hazards.
The open mesh construction allows adequate space to weave and thread cable
ties around the rods and cables to ensure a neat and secure fixing. Cables
can also laid loose in groups, retained and segregated by PVC cable dividers.
The facility to modify the cable runs by adding tees and take-offs to
the system even after the first cables have been installed, without any
disruption to the existing services.
Hinged joints are manufactured to overcome the rise and fall in levels
that are common place within complex cabling systems.
Trays can be cut to size where required with each joint designed to allow
50 mm of lateral tolerance.

DATATRAY Installation
Minimum on-site installation time. Only requires a single screwdriver
to install an entire project.
Each connector is fitted with captive nuts ready to receive the 6 mm securing
bolts.
Can be fixed directly to the floor through the tram line slots, or bolted
to steel support type framework.
Can be raised from floor level between 12 mm to 80 mm by means of a leg
support.
Can be suspended from the ceiling using its vast range of support fixings
to suit all cable layout configurations.
Extensive range of accessories to provide take-offs to other types of
conduit, switch plate supports and tray covers.
The Correct Material
for the Best Results
Fabricated from mild steel wires to (B.S. 970) Grade 040 A04.
Produced in a full range of finishes to satisfy exacting demands.
The standard finish for internal use is passivated zinc plate. Alternatively
any colour to suit the B.S. range is available to order.
For more corrosive environments DATATRAY can be finished by hot dip galvanising
or manufactured from stainless steel rods.
DATATRAY Applications
Hot dipped galvanised Datatray Two was used to support the power and signal
cables throughout the length of the Heathrow link tunnels.
Datatray construction
allows cables to pass through the gaps in the mesh from one level of tray
to another without having to frill and bush each junction. To complete
the system there is an extensive range of accessories to provide take-offs
to other types of conduit, switch plate supports and tray covers.
A fast delivery service of prefabricated parts coupled with a complete
range of ready made bends, tees, crosses and reducers are all available
as standard stock items.
Heavy duty power cables can be supported and installed, either in the
conventional tray position or with the basket inverted.
Shelf-mounted datatray
Conduit take-off plates and B.T. Data take-off plates can be positioned
as required and if necessary amended to suit the current site requirement.

ELECTROPLATED WIRE
When 1 sq. metre of wire mesh product is Electro plated approx. 10u (microns
of Zinc) is deposited on the wire. This equals approx. 70 grams of zinc.
By rule of thumb one gram of zinc equals one hour of salt spray test.
Therefore 70 grams equals 70 hours of salt spray testing. This type of
finish having 70 hours protection is most suited for indoor controlled
environments.
ZINC PLATE AND
PASSIVATE
Zinc plating is undertaken after manufacture, so there are no exposed
ends. Passivation increases this protection by up to 20% and can be applied
in silver or gold colour finish to give approx. 85 hours protection in
a salt spray test. A lacquer finish can be applied to give a further 20%
protection. This finish is ideal for all normal internal installations.
PRE-GALVANISED
WIRE
Basket fabricated from pre-galvanised wire has 10u, therefore has approx.
70 hours protection. Cut edges may show some rust in time but these are
self healing.
HOT DIP GALVANISED
To give a good finish the steel should have a silicate content of 0.4%
this will give a clean coating of 25u and be equal to 175 hours salt spray
protection. Thicker coatings can be applied but these will leave dips
in the finish. Up to 500 grams of zinc can be applied to give up to 500
hours protection.
BEZINAL FINISH
A pre-fabrication coating of 95% zinc and 5% aluminium. The aluminium
will oxidise to a black colour in time but gives protection to the zinc
plating. Applied at 35u equals 250 grams of zinc to give 250 hours protection
but the aluminium gives this an improvement factor of 3, to give a total
750 hours salt spray protection (This is the most cost effective finish
but has a manufacturing lead time).
STAINLESS STEEL
Manufactured to grade 314 or 316 for use in the Food Industry or in very
corrosive atmospheres.
EPOXY PAINT FINISH
AlI Datatray can be finished in a range of colours to suit the clients
requirements. Each cable type run can be colour coded to give ease of
identification.
